Closet Progress

I am ALMOST done with my new closet room!! I picked out paint last Saturday (Martha Stewart brand colors Flagstone and Zinc, but color matched for Behr paint in a flat finish) and while my husband taped everything off, my son and I painted all the low stuff, including a little desk I had in my old closet. We were finished panting by Sunday night.
All day Monday I moved my things from my old closet. There was a whole shit load of purging going on. LOTS and LOTS of trash bags full of stuff that didn't make the cut. It felt really good.
By Monday night it looked like this! The rug is a woven wool I had in another room, the chairs I picked up for $20 for the set at my local thrift store a couple of months ago, the baskets I found for $15 a piece at a local bead store and the little wicker table (as well as some woven wall hangings, not shown) I just found at another local thrift store for a few dollars!  Including the paint, this DIY closet has cost me just over $200!  I still have a ways to go, brainstorming on DIY light fixtures to hang from the 18' ceilings (Thinking of multi colored paper lanterns but I'll need to rig something due to the length of cord I will need), a solution for displaying / storing all of my belts and hats (better than nails in the wall), and the task of hanging my random found woven wall pieces and inspiration board. Also, I am creating an outdoor space on the deck through the French doors! I will be hanging a hammock and I have an outdoor rug, a huge wicker armchair and a bistro table and chairs I have been stashing away! I may also create a little space for outdoor yoga or something. I feel like finally all the stuff I have been squirreling away is coming to good use!  Its all very exciting!

Do you have any suggestions for hanging belts and hats?  I have well over 20 of each. After purging. Hmmm. May need to release more into the wild. We will see. I'll take more photos with my good camera once it is all done!

{EDIT: By the way!! I am not going to add anything else to my etsy shop and I am giving the lots that are still available just one more week to sell. Then that is the end of that. So, If you wanted something, get it before next week, and If you would like to make an offer on a lot (though the items are already at $10 a piece) just convo me in etsy and lets make a deal. I would love to see it sell, but if it doesn't it doesn't. Oh well. New plans. I really appreciate the support you have given me already and am so thankful that so much of it has sold already. It's been a good run. So, Thank You. }

jeeeez, can we PLEASE switch lives? haha. Christina, this is AMAZING. I want to be bffs and neighbours so i can just come play dressup with you every day!!!
oh and sip wine on your hammock ;)
This makes me want to do fun stuff like this BUT I am moving. Into a closet. haha not really. but only 300 square feet which is probably the size of your new closet ;) and i know im gonna have to purge a lot. ive started but things like bags and hats.... It's so hard! i probably have around 20 hats too.. but they are so annoying to store... right now they are all sitting one on top of the other slanting and almost falling on top of my bodyform. its messy and falls down on a regular basis. plus I'm probably deforming them. Anyhoo, despite the fear, im excited to purge. im more excited to purge all teh STUFF ive accumulated. so much STUFF that i dont need.
anyhoo, once im done school and done my blog break, im hoping to talk more about that stuff on zee blog.
love this, keep us updated on this, it's awesome. (and inspiring!)

as for the belts, i hang my necklaces & belts on old hollowed out picture frames that I've nailed heavy duty finishing nails into... I got the idea after seeing somethign similar in an etsy shop and though, hey! i can do that!

I highly recommend this lamp from Ikea-http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70096377

It is called the FADO table lamp- many times I use it to light my whole room and it works really really well and I have had it for almost two years with no problem.

I love what you did with the room!!!!!!! On the free people blog they just posted how to make a tapestry for a wall hanging in the form of small circles- that maybe really cool over the desk or something!

Loving the closet!! Drooling as a I type!

As a hat collector myself with over 70, my husband hung small hooks up for all the hanging hats and then bought hat boxes for a lot of the rest, then ordered me to NOT buy anymore! : )

Can't wait to see what you come up with, it might be just the excuse I need to buy more! Not that you ever need an excuse to shop!

I LOVE IT! could totes be in a magazine...

I don't know if you were looking for a 'creative' idea for belt storage, but I have a practical one... You can buy belt hangers that hang on a wardrobe rail and are like, almost a complete ring with a gap at the top that you can hook the belts onto. They are certainly space efficient...

By the way I feel really bad, I wrote you a letter WAY back and keep forgetting to send it and today I am going to Europe for 5 weeks so I don't think that will happen now, plus the content is way out of date haha. Maybe I will send you a postcard :)

drooling!!
a mens tie rack is great as a belt holder. mine is a cedar strip with about 20 pegs, holds about 10-15 belts. works great, so much better than hanging off the closet rod slipping to the floor all the time!

still trying to get the nerve up to try a christina style self-haircut, maybe one of these days!

If there was a way you could use vintage knobs and pulls to display some of the stuff instead of nails...
Your room looks amazing!

I have a string of sparkly beads which hands from one corner of one wall to the next and I use tiny coloured wooden clothes pegs to attach hats and scarves to the string. You can add or arange them as much as you like and they dont take up floor space. You can also hang from the ceiling in a corner and just attach things all the way down.

This is such an amazing space. I waited until today to comment because I have spent the past week or so pouring over every one of your posts (creepy? perhaps a little. flattering? I hope so.) I find your style/spirituality/life incredibly inspirational.
