digging it.

This week sure did speed by.  Well, this whole month actually. And for that matter this year has been truck'in right along.  I just can't believe it.  While all of that time feels like its going fast, the weird thing is that my blog is not even a year old yet.  It feels like I have been doing this forever.  I have a hard time recalling things before my blog actually.  What did I do?  Who did I talk to?  What did I even wear??Wow, my life is different now.  Well, maybe not my life, but I certainly am different now.  I am not sure if all blog readers blog as well as read (unless I know you and your blog through your comments) but has your experience with blogging or reading them, made a very big impact on you?  Its sort of a rhetorical question really, I guess I am just wondering if you have noticed it in yourself.  I sure have.  The way I communicate is different, the confidence in my dressing, just knowing who I am.  I think that writing each day a little bit, digging in to what you really think, is more of an exercise in self discovery than anything else.  The clothes are fun.  Its like the initial commonality we have, but eventually I think people connect really through words.  I never know what I am going to write when I sit down.  It may be disjointed or boring sometimes but then maybe that is how I am sometimes. Every once in a while its nice to sit and think about how lost, or not lost, but un aware I guess I was of myself before blogging.  I am thankful to myself that I do this.

OK self reflection aside, I am a little in love with this outfit.  I have had this printed skirt for a while now (talk about beginning blogging feelings!) and the hat and belt actually, well and the shoes, but this is the first time they have all been together.  The skirt has a draw string waist band so it makes it really easy to just tie it as a halter dress and the belt gives the waist definition.  Floaty and easy.

Dress: a vintage hippie skirt, thirfted
shoes: old navy
hat, belt: Urban Outfitters
Purse: great gift

Well, I'm a newbie and I don't really expect blogging to change me or my life as much as yours... But I can say that using fashion related communities or reading blogs or documenting outfits made me more aware of who I'm and what I like to wear and how I want to look. That's quite good. But the best part is getting to know people like you and others...

I remember this dress for sure, and looks great with matching accessories... Loved the color of the photos today, was it a very sunny day? :)

I love your photos. Everything about the texture of the dirt road, the lighting, and of course, how you styled that beautiful skirt and hat. Such lovely, versatile pieces.

I definitely feel different about myself because of blogging. I dress however I want without worrying about what people think, and I think I am just more confident over all. And I think I am more aware of what I want out of myself, which comes from the daily introspection writing brings.

I'm still blushing over your very sweet comment on my blog. You are so nice. I'm sad about leaving my own little Eden, but happy about what new exciting adventures are in this different town. I hope your son's teacher finds some comfort in the unfamiliar soon, too.

my first thought to this post was that you had chopped your hair off! but it's just tucked in your hat I presume :)

As I haven't had my blog very long, I wouldn't jump right in and say it has made huge changes in my life, although I do feel the beginnings of some changes. And I really hope these continue cos they feel good so far! Pretty much echoing the same things you brought up.

You look simply lovely! Great job turning the skirt into a dress.

I'm just starting out, but I know blogging has already made a change in me. I think about things differently now. I don't see a dress as simply a dress, but how many different ways can I style it. Also, seeing that I'm gaining followers and receiving comments makes me happy. I love interacting with the world on my blog as well as others. I can't wait to see where this takes me.

*******thank god i copied my comment before posting. im still getting errors*******
Hellllllllllllo missy.
I hope commenting works today, I keep writting long ass messages and losing them and I have no patience to begin with... (not just with you, others too)
So here goes.
I love that you made that skirt into a dress with the drawstring, that is sucha an amazing idea! I need to try it. next I love the shoes and hat, they are super-d-duper. I just bought a very similar had I will be wearing this weekend. Pics will be up next week.

Ok now on to blogging. I first thought well I dont think its affected me... (ive been blogging maybe 2-3 months) but then I realized it kinda has.
1) Ive come to "meet" amazing people (like yourself)
2) I have somewhere to share all those random thoughts floating around my head that never got out.
3) I think a lot more about what I put on (which may sound like im being materialistic but really it means I feel better about myself because I feel well put together)
4) If I have a bad day, I can vent on my blog or if I have great news, I can share it with likeminded people.
5) It's amazing to have something that you started from scratch, your lil baby that you help grow and spend your time on (rather than watching tv or anything else unproductive)
There's probably more but those are the ones that come to mind :)
I hope you have a super weekend Christina and I hope you're out of your funk!

i freaking love these shoes! and I can't believe they're from old navy! I never find anything good while I'm there... probably because it's always in such shambles... I do not envy their employees.

Yes! I do feel a lot different. I know just a few of the things that used to wear, it was almost always the same, I would wear the same outfit 2 or 3 outfits a week and I loved it so much! When I started blogging, I stopped doing that a lot because I didn't think people wanted to see the same thing over and over again. I still wear outfits that I love over again though.

But I feel like I have more confidence, and I know people who understand me, and not just people who look at me strange at McDonalds or the mall. Plus, now I hate the mall.

Blogging has made me much for confident in myself, how I dress, how I look, my interests. There are so many girls who are equally interesting, that I no longer feel like the "weird" girl all of the time. In some sense blogging creates a different, but healthy norm. I also am better at expressing myself, both in writing and conversation.

YES - i feel so weird thinking that blogging has made any kind of impact on my life...but it honestly has.

i take more fashion risks, am more inventive and am feeling really good about myself!

i also feel like i've gained a bunch of new friends...but i don't know any of them and probably will never meet them, can't talk about them with anyone b/c, well, their bloggers. that is a weird thing to try and reconcile. but i love the community i've found here!

thanks for voicing what i suspect many of us are thinking about!

Blogging has made me take more care in my appearance, as well as trying to not throw on the old same old same old... I also feel like I've made a few friends, strange as that seems as I've never actually met any of the lovely ladies from other countries who I correspond with!
Your skirt as a dress looks so lovely, and to convert it to a halter using the tie, styling genius! I love how you wear hats a lot. I adore hats, and am wearing them more often myself (more, since I started blogging!)

The skirt as dress is fab, and I love the hippy style paired with the ladylike hat.

I've only been blogging a little while, but for me it gives me something to really look forward to during my day, and it makes me really happy when people are interested in what I've written about.

Love the dress/skirt! It's so pretty!

That said, I've definitely taken to heart some of the comments I've received over the months of blogging. I like that they give me a fresh perspective on things. :)

I'm loving this outfit, the print, the fun accessories! I know what you mean about the blogging. The photos of myself everyday have been such a change for me, I am typically always behind the camera otherwise, not in front of it. The list goes on...

I never see anyone wearing those style hats anymore! They're so cute :D

I would never have even considered that being a skirt to begin with. Wonderful outfit. I love when that happens, pieces just come together and BAM, its great.
I agree with the growth and self reflecting in blogging. I really consider putting together outfits more so, all angles, and mixing things up now and then to try something new, different. Sometimes it works and you get pictures, sometimes you just try again.
Also I am getting much better at taking self pictures, at least I think they are getting less awkard. Enough jabber here!
ps - loving those heals....

I adore that hat. It's just so pretty on you. It makes me want to try wearing some now.

I haven't been blogging/reading blogs long (just a few months) but I do feel like it's changed me a lot. I've already created some great friendships and I also feel like my style has evolved a lot through the experience.

See how inspiring you are!!!!!!
I have literally tons of these skirts -
(the old hippie thang) and would have never though to tie the string around my neck! so simple, it's brilliant!!!
I find myself "finding myself" through my blog. I am so proud and glad I started it. It has led me so many places, fashion-wise and personally.
Would you consider an interview for this old hippie chick?
We both started about the same time, and you were one of the first really "big-time" ;) bloggers I saw my blog on her blog-roll!
I know u are very busy, but it would mean the world to me if and when u could. Pop over and let me know?

P.S. No worries if you can't :)
Though I am very old, kinda crazy, my feelings get hurt Very easily, I may not always be here, i only have these little things to make me happy, i may have carpel tunnel, my bursitis is acting up (again),i just burned my lunch, oops, my very OLD cat just threw up on my shoe, and i'm not too proud to guilt you ;)
Did it work?

I love this hat. I bought one almost exactly like it from TJMaxx a few weeks ago. I can't stop wearing it.

And thank you for your great post. I means a lot to me and it was exactly what I wanted. You're always just, so ... you in your posts. I love it!

You pull of this skirt worn as a halter dress so well! I tried to do this recently with a skirt of mine but it was too short (despite being the longest skirt I own) and didn't have strings and so I looked completely ridiculous. But you look great!

I feel very smilar about blogging, I've only been at it a few months but it has really impacted my life. I look at things differently, see people and clothes differently. I also feel like I've collected much more inspiration since now I'm always on the look out for it. I do feel like I've gained a lot of self awareness and I'm more creative in dressing myself.

Love to read your random thoughts!

xoxo, Ashley

I do think that blogging sort of crystallises you - makes you more solid and certain in yourself, and more self-aware. I feel much more conscious of myself and my life than I was before blogging.

I agree with the feeling of change. Becoming more self aware. It almost seems vain, to me, to feel like I am getting to know myself better via clothes and hair, but I am a girly girl and it works.
I am a new blogger, but have been following blogs for quite sometime. The sad, but real, feeling of "knowing" someone makes it easier to see yourself in them. Though I have never met any bloggers, I feel like they are my friends. I am a shy girl, I don't like people. Dressing up makes me feel unique. I am different and I am embracing it, you know. Before I found "my blogs" I was wandering around wondering why I couldn't wear heels to target. Now, I do.
It makes the little "I wants" in fashion feel safer. And that makes a big difference, i think.

Now this is CUTE! The addition of the hat makes the whole look extra special. I love making connections through blogging..it has and continues to be so much fun :) and hey, thanks again for your haircut tutorial..I used it and I like the result!

Love this look! I have tried the belted maxi skirt look before and it just didn't look right on me. There was all this extra fabric sticking out around the top of the belt, it looked strange.

Just wanted to say that I have been reading your blog for months now (this is my first comment though) and you really inspire me. Not just in the ways of fashion, (although that's a big part of it!) but just in terms of confidence and being yourself. So, thank you for writing this blog. I look forward to reading it every day.
