shifting interests

This is for Miss Kimberellie.  She asked to see one of the little paintings I had done recently to help her get started again. This was my first real shot in years at anything 2D and I am pretty rusty. I wasn't really planning on posting my new things here, but I thought that if start to get all precious about my new hobby and worried about, whatever, then I will just make a bigger deal out of this than it really is. I also see it this way: If I have shifting interests and I don't include them on this blog, then what is this space really a reflection of?

So my son paints right along side me and I have to be honest, he busts out water color gold every time. The one below was the one he did last night, but he has been pretty prolific in the past week! Yes, your suspicions are true, I believe he is a freaking genius.

Ok your son is totally a genius! I LOVE abstract art...and this is pure perfection...perhaps you could turn into one of those moms you read about in the newspaper who forces their child to paint for a living..haha..oh horrible I know...but I remember reading a stroy about a little girl whos painting sell for like $30 000 a piece..

i think it's so fantastic that you and your son paint along side each other. i think it gets both of you excited about art and expressing who you are. so very cool. my son is a pretty good artist too. but he does mostly drawings and they usually have monsters in them. ha! but i think it's cool to include your kids in any hobby you're interested in. you never know, maybe he'll be world famous some day!

That is really cute.

If it was me I wouldn't put the pictures on my blog, because I would then feel under too much pressure to 'perform'. But that has a lot to do with always expecting too much of myself. Do whatever you feel like I guess!

Your son's painting would make a fabulous printed fabric.

Oh YES!!!

so great. i didnt want to ask about sharing (i know it can be tough...art is so personal), but I am so glad that Kimberellie did!

This is fantastic, I love your delicate lines and subtly bold colors! mmmm chartreuse, coral and slate blue. delish

the little man certainly takes after his talented mama. i remember being so frustrated with watercolors as a kid, but you can tell he went at it with gusto. hip hip hooray!

Yay for interests other than fashion blogging! And for sharing them with your son. I like when blogs don't strictly stay fashion. Even if it's the main focus, it's nice I think for bloggers and readers to let it be loosely based on fashion with a heaping portion of personality and a dash of other interests. Besides, it keeps things from becoming to much of a chore. Instead it follows the natural progression of interests.

I'll take one watercolor dress in the mix your son has come up with please.

I like the sense of movement in the skirt of your painting.

The best thing about this little painting is that there is no conceptual scaffolding holding up some pretentious "idea”. I am happy to see you working and will be talking with you soon about the possibility of owning something along these lines.
