Rummage Around

Every year around the 7th of August this church in my town hosts a GIGANTIC rummage sale.  For a month before the sale the entire town (not just the Catholics) unload their junk and cast offs to a whole team of volunteers who then gather it, sort it, hang it, fold it, and merchandise it (!!!!! I know right!) so it looks like you are entering a HUGE thrift store mall.  People, this is a generous town.  The entire gym gets packed to the brim (they even had to expand outdoors this year for all of the furniture!) Every single thing is priced at a dollar or less. It opens at 7:00 am Friday morning and people are camped out over night to get in.  I volunteered as a sorter one time a few years ago and got to pre shop.  It was a miracle. I have not been able to these past couple years though and in fact have not been able to get over there till after the big rush (so like at 8:00 since I have to take my son to school and even that is early) so the pickings were already a bit slimmer than I wished they were, but I still got some pretty sweet stuff! This dress for instance, some creamy fringe boots, other fantastic things, but my main point in telling you all of this salivating information is that I am going to start listing and selling on etsy again.  Its been a REALLY long time since I have put anything new on there, and aside from the few random sales over the past few months (thank you girls) my personal income has been at a standstill.  I would love to just get it moving so I may just keep it as simple as possible instead of being a freaking perfectionist (about the styling and images) and while I save my time, I will in turn save you money.  I may even do bulk "lots" or group sales of like items or maybe even full outfits.  Like three dresses of similar size for $40, or 3 blouses for $25. I don't know, but just something to get it going.

Sound ok?  I just have to move it. My brain has the MOST focused intention of making this happen.  I think I was inspired by my girl Paige who just bit the bullet and went to town on her shop over the weekend and listed a whole lot of great stuff. If a single mom who works full time can do it, then by golly, I have to stop being so lazy and complacent and just turn the freaking screws to make it happen.  So thanks Paige.  Thanks for the swift kick.  even if you were not even pointing your foot anywhere near my rear.  I still felt it.

Sooo, I will, as usual, tweet the listings as they go up. I may do a few preview posts on top of my regular posts so be sure to check back periodically if you are interested.  Since about half of you may still not be able to comment on Blogger blogs (wordpress still can't right?) I won't do reserves on stuff to be fair, but I will give twitter updates and I will probably be doing it between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm this week.

Dress: St. Gall Annual Rummage Sale (yes this dress will be for sale, as with most of the vintage clothes I have been wearing lately. I might even use those pictures to list them. EASY I said.)
Shoes: gift from my man
belt: thrifted

One of the amazing things about other people's blogs is that they motivate you and kick yo'ass into action!

You have been an inspiration to me even before I started mine... so, thank you!

p.s. any chance those shoes will be on sale? =)
ha ha, I'm betting on NO!

I love that dress.

I wish we were anywhere near the same size because I love your style! However, I'm not at all crafty or domestic so I wouldn't be able to alter them to fit me. I wish I could buy some of your stuff!

thats such a fun, simple outfit. lol I know what you mean about having to get your rear in gear. all it takes is getting started. I usually get on a roll after that ;)

i need a swift kick in the rear (and a new camera lens) as well. i haven't posted anything new on etsy in months. there's definitely been a ton of changes over the past couple of months that are supposed to make listing less awful, and i can't wait to see if the process is better.

I always get overwhelmed by big rummage sales like that...too much competition or something. I look forward to seeing what you list!

my fav parts of owning an etsy store: shopping (finding something amazing - its like a high!), photographing, getting a genuine thanks from a customer who loves what they bought!

least fav: LISTING! measuring and writing descriptions take me the longest...and i slack b/c i dont want to do it!

in other words: i feel ya!
