personalized copy

I found all of these items (with the exception of the bracelets) at two of my home town thrift shops yesterday and when I got home I realized that I must have totally been under the influence of Haiku Ambulance while I was shopping.  Maybe I would have still purchased all of the items, but would I have thought to put them together this way?  Maybe not.  Its hard to say really, and once you have seen something, a style or a certain fashion combo, its hard to erase the appeal of it in your head, inevitably resulting in a personalized "copy cat" version of it even if you forget the original source.  This happens all of the time really, I mean, enough copycats adopt a look and it becomes a trend right? I am not stating anything profound, just that this outfit is so similar to an outfit that was on her blog recently, (and I am not going to track back and torture myself by seeing how much chicer hers looks!) one that left such an impression on me, that I unwittingly bought items to reproduce it and only realized it once I saw the results put together in my bedroom.  I am having this conversation right now, not only because it feels a little weird to have subconsciously copied someone (my shirt and shoes are slightly different, I think her shirt was black, BUT I DID buy a black shirt as well yesterday) but also because I would have felt really foolish if I had not caught it and just pretended like this was all me!  I feel like if an influence is almost literally interpreted, a gentle nod in that direction is probably a good idea (especially if there is a chance she might see it!).  I am lucky the reference was fresh.  I remembered where I saw this and who to thank.  This time.  Truth is, the more you browse the more you see and the more you get shaped!  Faces and blog names blend (at least they do for me.  Maybe I need to get my head checked though!)

You either find the best things whilst thrifting or you just have a great eye. Probably the latter. I love each piece in this outfit.

Could you please post a tutorial on how to wear a scarf as a top? It looks soooo nice ...

It really is brilliant how you pull off wearing a scarf as a top. It looks great on you. And the addition of those shoes is very interesting. I wouldn't have thought of it, but they look very cute.

And I know what you're talking abut comepletely. Sometimes when I get dressed in the morning I feel like I'm imitating some blogger or another, even without the original intent to. I guess that's where the "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" comes into play.

I know that look, but I barely say that this is a copy... All of us are influenced by others, but I think, "influence" is kind of like "oh, I've never thought of that" moment... so you may combine it with your own style... Of course using reference is the best, but sometiimes, the names and style just get lost inside of one's head... And I think this is normal... Don' worry!!! By the way, I really like her style but I really loved yours more here!!! :) Oh and I'll wear one of my big scarves as a top one day... But I can never forget that reference :D

Wow those shorts are really sweet and altho this look is similar to the one she put up, (i went to check teehee) it is also so completely different.
The blogging world is a great place to find inspiration though so theres really no harm in being inspired by other outfits, it would only be wrong if you claimed to have thought up an outfit together from scratch all by yourself when it clearly was a replica of someone's else's. who cares tho, immitation is the best form of flattery right? :)

Love those shorts! I've been looking for some like that, no luck yet.

My goal is to buy everything (well, minus underthings and stuff like that) at the thrift store by the end of the summer :)

i love this - you both are such lovely ladies. i actually thought that the top was a bathing suit for a minute! the sheen on the fabric through my off.

i take inspiration from other bloggers all of the time. i actually have a folder of images saved to look back on when i have no idea what to wear.

Thank you thank you thank you for your words yesterday. I needed to be reminded of it. Although I didn't have tea, I did cry. I had myself a nice good cry. Just mourning the fact that all of this is almost over, and that really a new chapter is opening up. Thank you!

Also, I want to try wearing a scarf as a shirt. I have vintage vera scarf I got, and this outfit makes me tempted to try it.

you make me want to chop off the girls so that I can wear a scarf as a top and not look absolutely ridiculous.

I love your top! My only problem with the scarf-as-top is that sometimes I can't get the tie to hold, but yours looks snug! Any tips?

HOT. Seriously you are H O T. Also, you just inspired me to cut my bangs. Really. I just did it. Your hotness is that inspiring.

You may want to take your shoes off.

This is going to be long winded.

Um. I just have so many things to say right now that this will probably end up as one big stream of consciousness garble that makes absolutely no sense when it's all said and done. But, here goes:

{I was going to send this as an email, but...}

I am so overwhelmingly flattered that I can barely express it.

It's so strange though- had you not said anything I never would have known. It's so interesting how different we view ourselves from within.

I would have just gotten so excited over the fact that I have the exact same pumps (seemingly, anyway) but in navy. Are yours Red Cross brand or something like that? I'm far too lazy to go look...

And my second thought would have been about how I just found this gigantic scarf thrifting a few weeks ago and wore it around the house as a {extremely risqué/hospital gown-style} dress- but haven't found the balls to wear it out and that you had inspired me to do so (but not with the bum out like we do at home).

And thirdly-- just today I posted about how I feel like I have horribly worn out my welcome with such shorts- but it's truly all I want to wear. And then seeing you pull off these beautiful powder blue babies made me go, "yes! Screw that I'm wearing them."

Alllllso- I just have to say (and this especially was to be emailed...) that putting that one teeny tiny link to me in this post has sent my blog more traffic than it has ever seen in it's life. I have just recently gotten over my fears of putting myself out there and connecting with other bloggers. Ridiculous? Yes. Ah well. But seriously, you are like the King Midas of the internet.

Obviously we all take in what we see and interpret it in our own reflection. It just blows me away that someone I have been inspired by for so long not only finds inspiration from me, but is worried as well! And if we're going begat-style with this look- now that I think about it-- I feel like I should send Meggstatus a pajamagram. Or something awesome like that.

So, I'll wrap it up. But I just wanted to say thank you and I'm honored and I LOVE the outfit- and by the way- your leggggggs?! My god.

And it's very nice to have met such a beautiful, eloquent, humble, and amazing friend.

I quite like how your entire outfit is THRIFTED! I'm so proud! I know some people that definitely turn up their noses at thrifting... but really, you look fantastic! Proves them wrong! ha ha. I don't think it would have occurred to me to pair those shoes with that particular top but it works GREAT.

those shoes are just the most wonderful thing I've seen ♥ lol I do that all the time where I realize after that I've basically copied someone else a little too closely. Either way it looks great on you.
