night and day

So today was the first day of the convention we came down to Vegas for (ICSC RECON, The Global Real Estate Convention, someone asked yesterday so just letting you know.  My husband's business interest actually, not mine).  I decided to wear a shift dress that could look tidy under a blazer for day and still cute and ready for drinks in the evening.  Shoes had to be practical since we were walking and standing all day (they still hurt like a mother effer right now. How do you standing-all-freaking-day-for-work women do this??  Tips please!  I have two more days of this! Apparently I am a wuss) and my dress is linen so it got wrinkles down the front the first time I sat down. Oh well.  At least my necklace (a gift from Merl at Clyde's Rebirth!  Thank you Merly!) is FREAKING AWESOME no matter what (in my humble opinion)!  These pictures were taken just as we got back to the casino. Now we are laying in bed watching Myth Busters (a rare treat since we don't have tv channels back home.)  So many things within parenthesis (I have always used them but there seem to be so many today.  Too brain dead to construct proper thoughts and sentences). (Oh and are the punctuation marks, when you are using parenthesis, supposed to go on the inside or the outside? Does anyone know this?  I guess I can just google it. I just wish I remembered.)

Dress: Banana Republic
Blazer: Banana Republic
Shoes: vintage thrifted
Belt: vintage thrifted
Woven Laptop Bag: vintage thrifted
Necklace: Clyde's Rebirth

Very cute shift dress.

I believe that if the parentheses are like an added note to a part of a sentence, the punctuation goes on the outside. If the parentheses are just in their own sentence (with nothing on the outside of the parentheses), the punctuation goes inside. I don't know if this was what you were asking? :P

i'm always so confused as to how to transition day looks into night time charm... this dress is completely the aesthetic i would love to go for... fantastic pattern your dress! a grey shift dress is such a nice option in comparison to black... much brighter but still neutral enough :)

lovely post!

Your outfit is pretty awesome, though I would never have worn that Necklace. I seem to have an aversion to that kind of necklace, even though it perfectly suits your outfit. That bag on the other hand... I covet ;) Oh and at conferences I usually tape up my feet with cushions in all the usual spots and endure whatever pain may come, also a cold shower when the shoes come of. This way they still kind of ache but I avoid ugly blisters which my feet are prone to. (I coul probably manage to get blisters in converse sneakers ;))

Your outfit is great. I love it when I get to see blogger's at-work style. I feel like I'm lacking in the workwear inspiration department. The dress is such a cute transitional piece, but i could not do linen for work (don't worry you're not alone! I have a linen skirt that I love, but every time I wear it I end up a wrinkle monster by the end of the day).

i think most women don't complain about wearing heels in an office because they don't stand very often - you're in a chair 80% of the day (this is coming from someone who unfortunately does this).

Outside, unless the parenthesis are their own sentence, I believe.

No tips on how to make those feet not hurt but you look lovely :)

1. You need shoes with lots of cushioning, flexibility and arch support for standing all day - plus practice. Your feet get accustomed to the demands of being on your feet all day, but it takes a while.

2. Punctuation marks go outside parentheses (like this), but "inside quotes."

3. You look lovely! I love the combination of neutral colors.

Dr. Scholl's for heels and moleskin! Will very much save your tootsies. Also, slip on shoes so that you can slide them off when sitting at a table or behind a desk. And finally - soaking your feet in a tub (and w/epsom salts if possible) at the end of each day. I spend up to 20 hours on my feet sometimes at conventions, those are my tried and trues.

I love everything about this outfit, (I'm certain this is most definitely not the first time I've said that). As for the standing all day long, its all about the Dr. Scholl's inserts for me. I don't even buy shoes unless I think they are comfortable, but 8 hours a day on a hard floor is brutal any way you look at it!
