One hit, Two misses

I bought these extra wide sailor pants like 3 years ago and have just saved them all this time.  So happy that they make sense to me again.  Thank you for taking a look at my closet yesterday!  It feels pretty nice to get dressed in it with all the things organized.  Saturday morning I had a hell of a time getting dressed.  Nothing seemed to fit right, every thing seemed disjointed and contrived.  Thats when I knew I had to get organized.  I included a couple pics of outfits I TRIED to put together Saturday to wear.  Both very different, both just not right.   The first with the shirt dress and vest would have been great if it was just a bit longer, or with some pants under, but I really wanted it to look like a dress, so I added a pencil skirt that looked sort of weird peeking out.  Then the second outfit I tried, I was really trying to wear the purple Corset Belt that I found at Beacon's Closet, which would be Ideal lover a dress, but I thought I would try it over a blouse and the pencil skirt but that was all too tight looking so I added the trousers which ended up looking strange to me as well.  So I just said, "screw it, I have to clean my closet out."  Getting dressed is usually very easy and quick for me resulting in a comfortable feel and look, but even my husband said these outfits were no good.  As I look at them now I don't think they are too bad, but whatever.  They got me motivated so thats fine.

COMMENT OF THE DAY:  This is so funny to me, mostly since my legs only started seeing the light of day last summer!  They were my secret problem area for 29 freaking years.  So seriously thank you.  This is huge for me! Can we still be friends?

Hi there. I have to say that I adore your blog. I found it a few months ago and just adore your writing, your pictures, your whole look and vibe.
There is just one thing that keeps me from adoring your perfectly and that is the fact that you seriously (don't mean to sound creepy) have perfect legs. PERFECT! If they were just a little pastier or lumpier I think we could really be friends.
I'm trying to work on it, because you really are so clearly amazing in just about every way.

I love those sailor pants. Flat front trousers are so flattering. Are they real naval surplus?

I would not say that the outfits are no good. Perhaps though, they are not as YOU as usual? I really like the last one. The pleated pants rock! And as for what you are wearing today: totally awesome!

I have been having the same outfit problems lately too. Ever since buying 48 articles of clothing (!!!) over three days I have been feeling sort of overwhelmed. You are right, I think, about it being about the lack of organization!

ps. I am currently wearing really wide leg pants too. Wasn't going to take a pic because I felt like my outfit was a little "too casual" but I think you have inspired me to!

How many times can I use the word "adore" in one comment? Plenty, apparently.

oooo...I love the sailor pants! Cute!

After reading your blog yesterday, I totally cleaned out my closet and reorganized everything. I was up until like 1 am cleaning out my closet! I was soooo tired this morning. But, at least it's done!

I'm really intrigued that you find an organized closet a prerequisite to getting dressed in a way you're happy with. I've recently started to feel the same way myself, after a lifetime of considering organization something that happened to other people, and have consequently started on a massive reorganization project of my own. I'm glad someone else feels this way: it's very comforting!

I need you to come organize my closet! Yours looks SO incredible!

ok ok so I know I just said you were nailing it with the white socks, I think white just looks fantastic on you in general! You work so well with incredible prints, so brave and lovely, but you in white = my heaven. p.s. love the honesty about frustration with getting dressed. Yesterday I had a once-in-a-month lucky day and got on a high horse about how getting dressed is like some Rorschach inkblot experience. After today (I look like some warped lovechild of a 9-to-5 character and Alice in Wonderland), I'm thinking I need to clean up shop and start over. As always, thanks for the honesty :)
