I think I belong to the 70s
If I were to propose that past lives and reincarnation were true, as evidence I would say that I suspect I was born in 1947 to war hero and the woman who waited for him while he fought. They raised me with all the cool quirky things of the 50s. Dad still loved big band and Billie Holiday, while mom was a rebel loving Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis. I was a young teenager in the 60's and really came into my own in the 70's. I would have turned 21 in 1968 and would have gone to Woodstock, enjoyed all of the rock of the 70s first hand as it was being released, would have personally mourned the loss of John Lennon. And maybe would have died from heart break at the prospect of the 80s right in the middle of 1979 at the age of 32 (also not trusting myself due to being over 30), when I was reborn as. . . well me, with a faint imprint of all my past life's passions including music and fashion. I would also maintain my desire for free sensibilities, which would be stifled some by the social climate of the 80's and 90's (well, and the 2000's) And in a constant effort to reclaim my old clothes and the ghost of my past, I will ferociously vintage shop, collecting as many things from that life as possible like trying to remember the colors of a beautiful dream you had, in a painting you create while you are awake.
So, what do you think? Am I a freaking lunatic or do you think this might be what's going on here? :D

No, you are not a lunatic. I feel the same as you. I love anyting from the fourties through the seventies and feel that I too should have lived during the decades. Like you, I was born in 1979....a little too late in my opinion!
the coats are fabulous
I think this a fabulous story and can only hope that I was there with you.
That printed coat is one of the most amazing pieces! I love it!
Haha, what a cute post!
I love this look, and I hope that you finally re-claim all of your old clothing.
Oh to live in the 70s....a rock n roll dream come true! Although I'd be happy to pretty much live in any past decade rather than the current (maybe not the '30s because of The Depression and all)!
To answer a question you asked me, no I do not work with Mel, but we work only 2 blocks apart--she's more on the planning/merchandising end of fashion, where as I'm an eveningwear designer. We're just buddies. Although, we did meet thru Chictopia back in June, found out we live in the same neighborhood, and we had a lot in common. So we became fast friends.
I think it's a beautiful theory. And you're sure rockin' those 70s looks! S.
i love this post. i had a great time reading. and oh, your fur coat is gorgeous. =)

First of all I want to tell you something: I cannot decide if you did a good or bad thing to me by telling the inspirational JCrew catalog... I just turn and check it all the time -and i found the november issue too- and change my mind about what to wear! But it really works! I used a look today, the shirt and graphic t-shirt... Well it was too cold in Istanbul so I added a faux leather vest and scarf as well... (no photo, can you imagine? most inspirational days without photos! bad.. too bad! but the project goes well, had done 50 pages in 6 months and added 15 pages last night! yes, I really wish to go back to blogging and chictopia days as soon as possible!)
And about your reincarnation: you definetaly are the person you think you were :) You look yourself in these clothes, loved them much!
I suspect you were a child of the 70's... and I've never thought of thrifting like that, as an effort to reclaim lost clothing from past lives. So poetic.
I love this idea!
And you really suit the 70s!
Those are fabulous jackets. And oh my gawd I want to marry those pants.
Your jackets are to die for. As for your story you might want to think about writing it as a short story. It was very good and made me wish I was going through the same transitions.
I would love to live in the 70s too!! I am always trying to incorporate more 70s into my girly style but it's hard. I saw you on weardrobe (featured your pic on my blog in a weardrobe post). Will add you to my google reader now. :-)
Eyeliah
Okay. I love this outfit. You are so lucky you can pull off the type of pant with a long coat. I feel like I can't.
LOVE these jackets.

I tagged you on my blog! But don't feel obligated to fill it out! i don't usually!
My biggest regret in life is that I did not grow up during the 60's! I am obsessed with the music, the clothes, the movements! My heart has always been a little hippie... I swear I belong in that decade. Being born in 87 was way too late in my opinion:)
hiya!!! i am visiting from Refuses to Label's blog - and what a fun wardrobe you have!!! the bell bottom pants are the best and you really wore it well,
xx
I for the record want to say that I don't think you could be any more adorable. You seriously look fabulous in EVERYTHING! Oh and I love that patterned jacket with the belt! I would do a little happy dance right there in the thrift shop if I saw it hanging on the rack!
agggg... I need (ok, we are at the point where we dont reeeally need... but its a unique feeling, needing something you know you don't need...)YEARN for all of these looks. You belong in Bells, that tucked in blouse/vest ensemble is something both Alex and I would live in. I'm especially freaking over that patterned coat. If it should ever hit your shop (you really should keep it) PLEASE let me know. I will personally drive to get it. ahhh.... thanks for a lustful morning.
Lots of love from freezing SF.

I love it. Especially if enlightens ones fashion choices. Old souls unite!
I love your style!! I love 70's too:)
haha... my dream life. Wish we could have been there to see it all. Would have spent some of the late 70;s bopping down to Studio 54 for a wee spin on my rollerskates and boogie to Donna Summer and Amanda Lear. And kept on the disco train til the mid 80;s so as to avoid heartbreak!
Loving the fur trimmed jacket and the aztec one... work it!

Love the coats and the look. It suits you. I just bought a pair of wide leg jeans. What shoes did you wear with them? I can never figure out what will look good

I understand this post completely. I've often thought I would have thrived best if I'd come of age during the mid-60's and had my prime in the 70s. Those are the eras with which I connect most in terms of music, literature, films, and fashion, and activist causes.
