already standing on the ground

These are the days I long for all winter.  The hottest days of summer. They get so hot that the heat brings on these storms.  We had torrential rain fall today. Flooding rain. Huge puddles. Then it stopped and the sun came out and it all dried up. Now the vapor is being held in the sky above me and its bound to fall tomorrow and the next day and continue to the end of the week. This process of build up and release. Intense heat relieved by intense rain resulting in a clean, clear, renewed air and ground.  It's great. You will NEVER hear me complain about the heat.  I think it is one of the most cleansing experiences. I can submit to the heat.  Revel in it. I love going out in the summer rains.  I can't do that with the cold.  You have to be on your guard with cold weather. Never trusting it fully since it can get the best of you if you are not prepared for it. But this, this time right now always helps me to be present and still. Even in myself.

I completely agree, I always feel most alive outdoors in sweltering heat. Trapped indoors during a heat wave, however is another story.
Great photos!

What a gorgeous setting for a gorgeous gal. That hat is perfection.

And I'm a winter girl myself, and both heat and humidity torture me!

I have never heard anyone put the beauty of summer heat into words so well. You completely captured my exact sentiments. Also, great dress!

1) These pictures are GORGEOUS christina. Can I come visit and just hang out on that bridge watching the sunset with you???
2) "This process of build up and release. Intense heat relieved by intense rain" That sounded a little erotic to me... is it just me? Do I just have a dirty mind?
3) I think you have the best thrifted item collection I have ever seen. Or perhaps you just make everything look good. love this post! it makes me happy :)

that's a beautiful bridge, nice shots!

I do love the cold after a massive thunderstorm (I think Minnesota is getting one today!!)

Such great photos! You look beautiful.
And I totally agree with the summer/winter thing. I dread winter just for the fact that no matter how much clothing I put on (besides the fact that I then look like the abominable snowman) I still freeze! But the heat? Eh, drink some lemonade! :)

That was so eloquently stated. Beautiful and descriptive. I feel exactly the same way. I'd so much prefer the heat to the cold.

The cold is paralyzing. Heat is soothing.

It does sound marvellous. The heat followed by the rain, that is. Where I am we get the heat but not the rain! But I'm definitely still a summer girl.
I love your black dress and you look gorgeous in it. Black is so stunning in a plain summer dress. Gonna have to get me one!!

I think im the opposite, im can't handle heat at all! My country has such mild summers and kinda harsh autumn and winter. The kind where the cold wind scalds your cheeks and its dark out so early so you snuggle up with a fire and drink mulled drinks...You can stand on a mountain side bundled up with hats and scarfs and watch the clouds so low that the hills dissapear into the clouds

I dig that dress - especially the low dip in the back. Just gorgeous. Like you!

Gorgeous photographs. You look stunning in that dress. I love the rain in summer, it can be really refreshing, even if it's just for a little bit.

It has been blisteringly hot in Pittsburgh as well. We saw Tom Petty on Saturday. The day was in the high 90s. But during Tom, the skies opened up and cooled us all. It was magical! Revel in it, indeed. This dress is so gorgeous. I'm such a sucker for an open back.

I have said this in comments before, but I love your writing style. It is not so much like reading a blog, but more like reading a great book. LOVE your description of summer, and the gorgeous photography to go along with it!

Seeing you made me happier than normal today. I'm glad you found a good side on the weather (or the metaphor of the rain)... I hope everything is better... You look good, nice bracelets!

Yes! I love hot HOT summer days as well. but in my state they are REALLY dry. It is intense, but I love it. We normally get one big heat wave a summer, I think last year it was over a month of 35C or higher, with like 16 days over 40C. Definitely no rain here!

Um, that bridge + scenery = amazing

this might be my all time favorite post on Second Skin.

~~from the magnificent location of your photographs; to the long, dark, brooding dress you are wearing; to the shot of vibrant shades existing with a creature laying wayside, whose soul seems to have departed physical form in the recent past; to the words of sheer poetry you have written~~
