a mingle

I was feeling incredibly casual today, mostly since I knew that right after I dropped my son off at school I was coming home to take my Etsy shop pictures.  Before I went up to shoot though I read over all of your comments from yesterday again.  Wow.  This is such a grounded, deep, and interesting group of women.  I learned so much from you yesterday and answered some of my own questions from your answers.  I still have to choose the comment of the day, but if you get a chance or if you have any interest at all in social relationships and connections, give the comments section a second look.  As I make my way back to each of you to remark on your thoughtfulness and honesty, please know that I really heard you.  Twice actually.  Its days like yesterday that remind me that this is bigger than any one blog or person.  I have so many more things running through my head about this.  I actually received a call from one of my college professors this morning (he teaches, photography, new genres which is like performance based art and new media work, and runs the gallery of my college)  and I was telling him about the really cool and interesting thing that is happening in the blogsphere and how it is a mingle of performance art, new media, photography, journalism, communication, networking, trending, fashion, I mean the list goes on.  He was interested.  Apparently to me and to you and everyone else, this is important on many levels.  It is like a social experiment we are all conducting and measuring on our own.

My outfit today is composed of an American Apparel shirt that I just broke down and bought.  I had been searching for far too long for this shirt at the thrift shops and was worried I would never find the perfect one.  I fear the stripe bubble will burst soon (I hope not) so I just got one so I can enjoy it while it lasts.  Oh and my cut off shorts, knee high socks and beat up boots, and a military coat I got at the thrift store.  Also, In case I do not list my stuff in the text of my posts, you can find my items listed in the tag or label section of each post.  Someone asked about my clothes the other day, so just thought I would tell you that again.

All of the things below are being listed a few at a time this week and through the weekend.  My whole email notification thing didn't really work that well last time, and reserves are sort of difficult to maintain as well.  hmmm.  I mean, how would this work best for you? I want to give you fist dibs, but I am not sure where the happy medium is.  This is I guess where twitter would be helpful.

COMMENT OF THE DAY:  Thanks lady!  And Yes.  I get you.

1. You have such a natural way of styling things...always so perfect.
2. I read your post yesterday and I felt like I couldn't respond because my mind was churning so much. I'm still having a hard time articulating what I want to say... I can't believe how much blogging has taken over my life. I started blogging more than a year ago and in that short year even, the blogging 'industry' (cuase it is, isn't it?) has changed so much. I didn't know about Modcloth, etsy, followers etc. when I started, I just knew I wanted to share in fashion somehow. Sometimes I get distracted by all that other stuff (why her, not me?, do I want to monetize, am I popular?) and I really have to metaphorically rap myself across the knuckles to remember that my blogging has to be an extension of what I love; fashion and if that changes, then it's no longer fun.

Last night as I laid in bed I kept thinking back to what you had wrote in yesturdays post. When I first started blogging it was sometimes discouraging not having many readers..and well I still don't have many..but that doesn't matter because it only takes one positive comment to make my day...whether its on my blog..or coming from a stranger on the street..or from my husband. But then when I really think about it...I enjoy clothes so much..and enjoy blogging so much that it shouldn't really matter whether I have any viewers..or get any compliments in a day. So thank you for opening my eyes!!..and just know that when you ramble on about whatever it is you do....you always manage to effect someone in a positive way!!

Very cute outfit! Love the knee highs with the boots. Oh, and I am in love with the white dress (third from the end). But I am afraid that my buying spree must end at some point or I would click and credit card and purchase!

hi Christina! I just wanted you to know (again) that I think you're such an inspiration. I am working on another project over on tumblr. Basically I decided to try and not purchase any clothing items that were over $30 for one year. Yesterday you totally inspired my outfit! I hope you like it!

I really enjoyed yesterdays post, both in reading others responses (which seemed to be very different from mine), but also getting a chance to sit down and actually think about why I do this. I do believe blogging is an important movement and that is the right term for it is happening right now and we have no idea how to measure how it is actually changing everything. I cannot wait to find out and know that I am a part of it!

ps an awesome blogger found my blog due to the comment I left yesterday, so thanks haha

I'm a day late to your thought inducing post because, for the first time since i started blog-stalking, i missed a day! and you know what? it's kind of disturbing how out of the loop i feel when i miss what some of my favorite bloggers have going on! you are so right when you say that we grow attached to these individuals. I feel like even if I never started (but i did, and its like crack) I would still be incredibly interested in what everyone has to say. I think its amazing, and completely reassuring, that there are other women out there like me that are so completely captivated by fashion, yet are still deep enough to post things like this that will keep me mulling over questions for hours.
the new friendships, positive words, ideas shared... its a one of a kind crazy world, and i don't know what I'd do without it.

I love how you styled your striped top with the military jacket... you look great even in casual attire.

About yesterday's post, I love to see what other bloggers are wearing. Honestly, I consider my fellow bloggers my style inspiration. Seldom do I look at fashion magazines. I want to see real people wearing real clothes. So I also blog to inspire, to make someone smile, or maybe make someone laugh.

I didn't think that my blogging will be an income generator. My blog used to be a photography blog and I was earning from it. But why did I shift to fashion and not earn from it anymore, I think it is more about doing what you love to do... that is priceless. xoxo

I love checking out other fashion bloggers outfits and hearing about their inspirations, that in itself is an inspiration to me!
And yes, stripey tops are great, aren't they!?!

Christina, I really appreciate your honestly on this blog. Not alot of people doing this would dare to question their choices as much as you. And I mean that in the best way. It's very refreshing and insightful.
I love the last one, the blue button down with pockets! When are you going to post them?
Thanks again for the cape. I can't wait for it to get here!

Ah, tres francais. ANd as for the stripes--I consider them a basic of sorts, one that will never go out of style!

Love the striped top, ahh I'm getting so anxious to get one!

Totally understand the stripes thing. Don't have one of those shirts though. Too much hype.

I like the red blouse and the black blue blouse, second row middle right. You definitely have a knack for finding the coolest stuff.

It's interesting that you think of blogging as performance art, I wouldn't go that far. But it just might be that I never liked performance art that much, the term perfomance art has a bad taste for me.(I never liked my art teachers!!! And they never liked me, either.*grin* I wonder what they would say about my art projects now. I'd probably scare them. HAHAHA.)

cheers, San

Oh, I love the tee! I don't blame you for breaking down and buying it. If I had any spare moolah I'd be doing the same. I feel like everyone needs that shirt in their closet. Cute, cute, cute!

This is probably my idea outfit. (Except for the cut offs - I don't have your incredible legs!!) I am Obsessed, with a capital "O" with nautical stripe anything and will probably go to American Apparel on my lunch hour tomorrow and buy one. And I feel you on the stripe bubble - I feel like I have to stock up or something!

chelsea lee said...

LOVE the stripes. And from a very long stripe devotee (i've mentioned my stripe addiction a time or two on my own blog), I can tell you that the stripe bubble probably won't go away any time soon. Classic, timeless and almost a basic in my book!

you look fabulous. I can't wait to break out the cut offs!
