nothing special

My outfit today is nothing special.  I slept on the couch last night to avoid sickening my husband (and to covertly get a few extra minutes in blogland ;) Shhh!) and honestly don't think I got a blink of sleep!  Its like you are fine if you suck on a cough drop, but can't sleep with something in your mouth, then when it finally dissolves, you start to drift off and a silly cough erupts!  Holy Jeeze man!   Oh well.  Any way, I went to the doc today and got some really great prescription cough syrup so I should be sleeping like a lamb tonight.

I wasn't going to post today but there were so many questions about that skirt I wore yesterday I thought it was fitting to show my not so special outfit while telling you about my not so special sewing technique.  I wish I could tell you that I did the waist band myself but that was actually the existing waistband of the shirt.  I just turned the shirt upside down, cut under the sleeves, and hemmed the fabric. Presto change-o.  The secret is that its just a really killer print!  I am telling you, thrift STORES.

OH!  I almost forgot!  Do you guys think I look like a robot because I always pose and turn my eyes the same direction?  Some body called me on it recently (Not here) and I was just wondering if it seemed weird to you guys?

Gorgeous look! I'm a huge fan of the neckline on the dress and the pattern on the purse.

=P I noticed your so-called robotic pose, but I think it's cute. It's like the sorority squat; (no offense meant here! I just find it amusing and I do it myself) every sorority girl just automatically poses that way.

I love projects that seem complicated but actually require little to no sewing! [however, eventually I will learn all the little odds and ends of my sewing machine so it won't be a problem]

I always find your pose quirky and I love it...haven't ever thought it to be robotic. But, I would love to see your outfits outside or with a different background perhaps. They are just too cute!

Different backgrounds would be nice every once in awhile...maybe to throw us off a bit but don't change the pose. That is just my personally opinion..same pose + different outfits=style!

ugh, I have been going thru the same thing. 3 tips that work or me
1. sleep on a slope sitting up.
2. warm water on feet with cloth, then vicks, then socks (srsly try it)
3. painkillers before bed!

Oh, no! So sorry to hear you're sick.. That's no fun :(.

As for the pose, it does seem a little robotic but I think of it as your signature pose now! And everyone has a signature pose... mine is tucking one leg behind the other.. hehe ;)

I like the pose and the background being the same, it makes the outfits the centre of your focus when looking at the pics! Love the outfit!

hehe I had noticed your signiture pose, but I certainly never thought it was robot-like!

Honey and lemon is my best cold remedy. Manuka honey is best :)

Hey there,

I love your purse; very cute. And I hope your cough syrup does the trick! I'm going to check out your Etsy store, too. Thanks for the tips on the skirt; I will definitely mosey on over to the men's section (as I'm a frequent thrifter) and look for cool patterend shirts with stretchy waistbands on them. I wanted to tell you that you have inspired me since I saw your feature on This Time Tomorrow: I think I'm going to make my 2010 resolution to purchase only at thrift stores, except for the occasional basics, and maybe a few vintage store purchases.

As for your poses, I like them so much! I have terrible photography skills, and you've got something that works beautifully, so milk it! A.

Haha. I never would have noticed the pose thing, but my husband did. I was showing him pictures on blogs I like and he thought it was intentional ("like a human mannequin").

I think it happens naturally, because I've noticed I already have some default poses and I haven't even been at this very long.

I figured you were just shy and didn't like looking into the camera. A lot of bloggers do this, so I wouldn't think it was weird.

love the pattern on the bag

I have noticed the pose and it confused me at first. But, it adds a element of uniformity so that we can focus on the clothes. I like it.

Haha...No I don't think so at all! I get annoyed with myself I look back at my photos and I'm doing the same thing in every shot but strange, it doesn't bother at all with others...Plus it's a cute little smirk you've got going on!

not at all, a lot of people have a pose that they're more comfortable with.

i just noticed how delightful that bag is. yay for larger photos on blogs!

As I said, you look a bit tired, but you know exactly how to everything together... First it looks simple, then the colors and the hat comes out! You look great!

And about your pose, I hink this is your style, and nothing like a robot, are you kidding me? I find myself much beautiful when I pose like that too, and much easier to pose this way... You look wonderful, don't worry about it!

kisses!

Hahaha! Thats the funniest thing ever (robot pose). You know, my grandmother asked my dad if I had something wrong with my left hip since I was alays leaning to that one side!!! haha. I had to assure her that nothign was wrong.

Keep doing what your comfortable doing. I've gotten a few call outs about how I don't look confident, or how I stand, but I try to not listen to all of that since it'll only make me feel more awkward in front of the camera.

Not a robot lol, but maybe a very cute mannequin :P

As mentioned above, you don't then really look at you and focus more on the clothes.

Maybe it's just me but I'd love to see more shots of you interacting with the camera.

That said - you're gorgeous and I totally love your style :)

This is my first visit to your blog, and the first thing I noticed (after your awesome style) was the uncannily uniform nature of your poses. It does strike me as a little strange that every picture has you in the exact same pose, with your gaze in the exact same direction... That said, I've instantly fallen for your style and your blog, and it's not like the "robot pose" will scare me away. But I would love the blog even more if you had some different poses and different settings for the photos.

Oh, forgot to note what I like about your signature pose - the fact that it allows the clothes to be clearly visible. There are few things more annoying on a fashion blog than to be presented with a series of poses that completely obscure the clothes. So I do like the fact that your poses put the emphasis where it belongs - on the outfit. I'd still like to see some different poses, but keep that element going!

I discovered your blog only a few days ago and I'm hooked and inspired! I did notice the pose right away but I like that you often use the same background because it does put the focus on the clothing. I thought the pose had something to do with you being shy. I think it's a cute pose. It reminds me very strongly of Blythe dolls. Check out Gina Garan's This is Blythe website and you will see what I mean. That Blythe is a very fashionable lady, too. :)
