It doesn't even have a soul.

Sometimes I find things that I CAN'T believe were given up by someone, get freaking thrilled that I found it, of all the other people that could have gotten to it before me, realize this is a miracle, get my item home, wear it out and realize there was actually a really good reason someone: A) got rid of the item in the first place, B) didn't buy it before me, and C) should not make suede boot soles out of foam. I mean, they felt sort of weird and sticky on the floor when I first put them on, I wore them around the house today while it poured rain outside, then when the rain stopped and I went out to take these photos, I found a trail of camel colored foam on my way back to my camera to check the shots. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!!?? Oh dang. My new miracle suede booties just lost their souls. Away to the great boot heaven they go.  "Bye Bye little booties! Go be with your little vintage bootie friends that I assume made it there way before you did since you probably sat in someone's closet of purgatory for the past 20 years."  That top photo actually looks like I am bidding the little booties farewell.  Awe, well, there are always more booties I guess.

Oh, I know what you mean! I recently got these amazing vintage gladiator sandals... I wore them to the river and I've been gluing them together ever since.

That blue floral is gorgeous. Your new (?) lens is making these pictures pop!

maybe you can get them resoled? you know NOT with foam, but with leather or something. cuz they are awful cute.

Lara said...

That is really weird! How can anyone make a shoe sole like that?

Haven said...

I totally agree with the Citizen Rosebud! They're really cute and if you love them lots you should have them resoled with non-foam. :)

oh my, i totally laughed all the way through this! i think it's because this has happened to me before, well not exactly, but i bought a pair of sneakers that after the first day of wearing them they were flapping on my feet like flip-flops cuz the sole had completely come apart from the shoe! made me so sad. i mean, they managed to make it through many years of sitting in someone's closet and the minute i take them to the streets they crumble. so i feel ya about those booties. they're awfully cute.

Christina, seriously? This may be one of my favorite sets of photos ever. The light is great and your outfit looks so striking against the background. Maybe it's just that I'm a sucker for all things patterned....?

Do NOT throw out those suede booties!! If they cannot be resoled (or if you chose not to), then deconstruct the boots and reuse the suede: make a cool cuff bracelet, or make into thin strips for laces or thin bracelets; or for patches on a vintage blazer, etc etc. Suede in that gorgeous color can be used for lots of things.

Wow, that is unfortunate (and kind of awesome). Oh well. I love the unexpected color combo here with the blue and camel, on the plus side!

oh yes, i know this sole-problem far too good.
when i was a teenager i bought a beautiful pair of vintage wedge boots. i felt so proud wearing them the next day to school. during the first recess i had to notice that the left heel was 3 cm smaller than the right one... till the end of the school day the left heel was fully gone to foamy nothing. i had to put tghem in the garbage too...

ahaha, 'lost soul booties,' awesome. i love these pictures, the sky looks beautiful. so sad about your boots!

It's such a bummer when shoes lose their "souls", especially when the rest of the boot/shoe is fine. Sorry for your loss!

I also vote for getting them resoled in non-foam. Some items are worth an extra umph, just so you can keep them.

Haha... it actually looks like they melted off you...
The good news is that their isalways more fantasticness to be found at your local thrift stores.

The booties may be a thing of the past, but Beatrice has some good ideas.

Personally, it was the sweater that MADE this look for me. That second photo is just delicious.

I've been reading your blog for about 6 months now. I love your stories, your amazing photos and incredible style! So inspiring!

I can completely relate to this story. I found a pair of stunning vintage Frye boots (same as the gray ones you own only in red) in a thrift store. I couldn't believe my luck! I snatched them up and brought them home for $7. Unreal right? Well I went to put them on and soon figured out why a woman would ever dump these gems off at the thrift store. It was not in fact due to mental illness as I first thought, they were so sticky and rotten on the inside I couldn't even get my foot in. It was a sad day. I even tried to take them to a boot repair place. Apparently they were too far gone to repair even. I'll have to give the Frye's a proper burial now.

That is a damn shame.

Shame on who made that idea.

It's almost hilarious, but it's a tragic hilarity.

Tragilarity.

Two words for all of you bemouning the loss a sole; "Construction Adhesive"

It has salvaged many a flapping foot in my house. I'm just glad to know I'm not alone in the desperate efforts I go to save them!

Again with the sweaters. AMAZING!

These photos are indeed amazing. The one of just the booties is LOVELY. And you look so impeccable and beautiful in the first pic.

As for the booties: seriously, get them resoled like so many of us have suggested. I think it's only about ten bucks. And SO worth it.

You're gorgeous.

heart: moi (and really I think we will all be interested in the fate of the shoes: whether they get new soles or whether their bootie souls are bound for shoe heaven).

There are places where you can take/send your boots to be re-soled. I wouldn't let them go to boot heaven just yet!!
