I sort of like failure. Not like LIKE in the sense that I go looking for it, but in the way that, well, when it happens, I know I can learn something from it. It makes me reevaluate my strategies for success and amp up my game, OR reexamine my priorities and realign my ego with humility. I am not going to say much more about this except that sometimes failing to accomplish a blinding and ambitious goal can be the best thing for me. Why did I even want it anyway? Things are much the same having not accomplished it. Did I think something magical would happen if I got it? No. What would have happened to my character if I had indeed gotten it after wanting it so bad? Big question. Am I going to dedicate as many thoughts and actions to reaching it again? No. Why? Because having failed has taught me that the goal was not that important after all. I still feel like me. Maybe even a wiser version of me. Failure . . . welcome.
One thing I DEFINITELY refuse to fail is my new years resolution, so, at the prompting of the lovely ladies at Musing Around (who said I might want to photo copy my letters as a sort of record or diary) I have started a new blog just for that called 5ifty 2. I don't expect everyone to go over and read all my letters or anything, I just wanted to formalize my commitment and hold myself accountable. I have already pulled my first card and will be posting the letter before Friday.
Oh, regarding my outfit, Some days I like the way it turns out more than others and today was GOOD day! I also wanted to show you this lace thingy I got recently at the Salvation Army! You will be seeing much more of it in the coming weeks!! I think its my most favorite thing right now!

good luck with your resolution!
and i lovee your boots and the shape of the lace thing! they're to die for
Good Luck! I almost never actually follow through with my New Year's Resolutions so this year I'm keeping mine simple: Learn to knit. Your resolution is a wonderful idea though, and I really hope you fulfill it.

i know what you mean about failure. i was supposed to run a race in november but got injured and i cried like a baby because i couldn't do it. but now, i feel great, i've gotten stronger and i've gained a better attitude. failure is sometimes the best thing that could've happened. anyway, you look great and i wish you luck on your resolution!
i love the orange top! thanks for your comments on my blog, they mean a lot.
I love the salvation army! I went yesterday with some guys friends and they teased me about the amount of items I picked up, until the cashier rang up the total for my boyfriends, and my purchases, which came to $16.00.
I know how you feel about failure. I battle with that all of the time, I get overwhelmed at all the little tasks I want to accomplish and don't. You have a great resolution, I am glad that you are sharing it with everyone, because it is very inspiring. :)
I loveee loveee loveeee this outfit! So cool! And I love the 52 letters idea from your previous post. I think it's a great idea, and keeping a blog for it is a great way to keep up with it!
I think what I like most about yuou is this committed attitude. I'm so inspired! Really! My graduation project deadline is delayed 10 days which is a very good thing cause I'm so sick at the moment that I barely got out of my bed... So, The deadlike (14th January) is my New Year's Eve... Sart of a new life for me. And I'll decide things and make them official then. You inspired me so much! You are a wonderful person! Good luck with your resolution! I'm sure you'll manage it, and I'll follow you :)
I'm going over there right now to check it out! So exciting!
Fabulous shirt and lace sweater! What a great idea to post your letters in a blog...it'll be neat to look back at how many you've written at the end of the year, and how those relationships have changed. Best of luck! :) - JoAnn, Sidewalk Chalk
This outfit is great! You look all kinds of fierce!
Your 52 cards for 52 weeks is a wonderful idea! Best of luck! I'm sure old friends & family will love to hear from you! I'll be subscribing to 5ifty 2...

That 'lacy thingy' is intensly awesome! So much lace in one place and it's not even a wedding dress? Love it.
You look great! I love how you wrapped the scarf and tucked it in the belt. You pull out every outfit. I like to think that when thing don´t happen it is because they don´t have to and it is always for good.

Such an interesting outfit! I can't wait to see more of the lace thingy!
And thanks for your encouraging comments about my sewing project! It is so difficult sometimes, but super rewarding!
Your lace thingy is an absolute score. I feel like I could do so much with it... lucky.

i know what you mean about failure. sometimes you fail at something because you don't put in enough effort and why? maybe it's not suitable for you, maybe it's not important enough.
i think the idea is fabulous. when you are sort of accountable, you have an extra impetus to complete the project.
i love your lace thing.
Wow, stunner! You look fabulous. And I love your 5ifty2 project, too!
that lacey thing is gorgeous! i love it worn as a jacket/shawl in the lower pics :]
happy new year!
I absolutely love your resolution. I think that it is just so completely thoughtful and the people who receive these letters will be so happy that you took the time to hand write letters to them.
I am completely in love with this outfit as well! The belt completes the look. So unique.. I've been looking all over the thrift stores for a belt similar with no luck, so I envy you!
PS- Of course your section on failure was very vague, and it could be on ANYTHING.. but just a reminder.. don't give up on your dreams. Maybe this has absolutely nothing to do with what you were writing about.. but I just want to encourage you to go for your dreams and don't let one "failure" determine your success.
Thanks for your sweet comments! And Yes the policeman breaking down my door was hilarious. And very very very college-y.
I adore your top today :)
Love your top! And that lace cardigan is just adorable...

i'm quite in love with that giant lace cardigan, you wear it so well :)
and i have to agree that sometimes it isn't horrible when you fail since you take away something from it.
Good luck with all your cards! This outfit is amazing, as usual!

That lace cape is absolutely gorgeous!
Love the way you winterized the off the shoulder blouse, you have such a talent for pulling together a great look out of disparate pieces! Love that you look at un-successes as teachable moments- must try that more myself. :)

Another beautiful outfit! I want that belt!!! xoxo Jolie
I adore this outfit and especially the lace thingy! I have taken and taught burlesque, it is LOADS of fun! You should definitely try it out!
Well that is a great way to look at failure. :) Anyone who has had great success has failed many many times.
Oh my so many thing I'd like to get my grubby little mitts on! time to check up on that paypal account and see if there's any funds to permit such things.
Oh and I'm the same. Actually, I've had an email started for you and its been sitting in my drafts for oh about a month now. Maybe I should follow suit and finish that up!
